Welcoming Māori Professor Khylee Quince to Ahuriri

Te Taiwhenua o Te Whanganui a Orotū had the privilege of welcoming a formidable leader in the legal and Māori world to Ahuriri this morning. We were humbled to host a mihi whakatau to mark the arrival of Professor Khylee Quince (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou, Te Roroa) as she prepares to share her mātauranga with our community.

Napier Māori Ward Councillors Shyann Raihania and Whare Isaac-Sharland gathered to acknowledge Professor Quince's arrival and her significant contributions to our nation.

A Leader in Justice

Professor Quince is a highly respected legal academic and the current Dean of Law at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). She is widely recognised for her leadership in legal education, Māori justice issues, and her tireless work advancing equity within Aotearoa’s legal system.

We are honored to have her here in Napier as the featured speaker for the 2026 John Robson Memorial Lecture, a key highlight of this year’s Unity Day celebrations.

It was an inspiring start to a day focused on kotahitanga and the future of justice in our community.
