Kai & Kōrero: Te Taiwhenua Engages with Local Communities

Te Taiwhenua o Te Whanganui ā Orotū recently hosted a successful Kai & Kōrero pop-up kaupapa across three locations in Maraenui and Onekawa, creating welcoming spaces for whānau to connect, share, and be heard. With support from the Māori Chairs Forum and in collaboration with Kāinga Ora, the kaupapa brought together local residents for evenings of kai, kōrero, waiata, and community building.

The events provided whānau with the opportunity to learn more about the services Te Taiwhenua delivers while also voicing concerns on important issues such as the rising cost of living and access to health and social services. In addition, representatives from the Electoral Commission were on hand to help attendees check their enrolment details and answer questions about the Māori and General Rolls, ensuring our communities are election-ready.

A strong turnout from surrounding homes highlighted the value of kanohi ki te kanohi engagement. These gatherings were not only about sharing information but also about demonstrating manaakitanga — showing care and support for the people we serve. Te Taiwhenua is grateful to all who attended and looks forward to continuing to walk alongside our whānau to grow, prosper, and thrive.
